Governor Kim Heesoo: "We Will Continue Efforts to Relieve Farmers' Burdens"

Jindo County, Jeonnam (Governor Kim Heesoo) has ranked first for two consecutive years in the proportion of top-grade rice purchased for public stockpiling in Gwangju and Jeonnam.

According to the county on the 15th, despite two periods of heavy rainfall last summer and damage from rice planthoppers, the amount of top-grade rice purchased for public stockpiling reached 73,669 sacks, accounting for 51.7%, achieving the highest top-grade ratio in Gwangju and Jeonnam for the second year in a row.

The county provided 2 billion won in 'Rice Production Farm Purchase Compensation Support Funds' to ease the burden on farmers and to distribute high-quality rice.

In particular, the county focused on maintaining the quality of local rice by implementing projects such as the 'Rice Disease and Pest Control Support Project' from the seedling stage through to field management after transplanting, providing over 3.3 billion won in support.

Additionally, after identifying the remaining quantities available for purchase by each farm, the county secured an additional 18,081 sacks beyond the amount allocated to each city and county by Jeollanam-do, ensuring that no farms were left out of the purchasing process and earning high praise from farmers.

Governor Kim Heesoo said, "I am grateful to the farmers who worked hard to produce high-quality rice despite the hardships caused by flooding and rice planthoppers," adding, "I hope this will help alleviate the difficulties faced by rice farmers suffering from continued price declines, and I will strive even harder in the future."

Meanwhile, officials from agricultural departments plan to continue visiting farms at purchasing sites to provide on-site guidance, emphasize accident prevention, and consistently listen to farmers' concerns.
