Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) held an event on the 15th at Goyang Sports Complex, attended by Mayor Lee Dong-hwan, weightlifter Park Hye-jung, and about 50 athletes and coaches from workplace sports teams, to express their hope for the joint hosting of the 2036 Seoul Olympics by Goyang City.

The participants at the event held pre-made banners and hand placards wishing for the Seoul Olympics bid and performed a unified cheer.


The attendees agreed that hosting the Olympics would solidify Goyang City's foundation as a sports city and enhance its brand value, serving as a stepping stone for Goyang Special City to take a leap forward.


Mayor Lee Dong-hwan emphasized, "Goyang City is not merely a satellite city of Seoul but a network city growing together. It boasts top-class sports infrastructure nationwide, including Goyang Gymnasium, Goyang Sports Complex, and Eoullim Nuri." He added, "If Seoul and Goyang, which share living spaces beyond regional boundaries, along with their civic societies, unite wholeheartedly for the Olympics, it can create a more positive ripple effect."


Park Hye-jung, a silver medalist at the Paris Olympics who attended the event, said, "As a member of the sports community, I hope the Olympics will be held in my hometown." She also stated, "If it is hosted, I will spare no effort to enhance the image of Goyang City as a sports city."


The workplace sports teams of Goyang Special City plan to continue promoting the Olympic bid through participation in various competitions and talent donation activities for citizens, aiming to attract public interest and contribute to creating an Olympic boom.
