Asan City Council Expected to Submit Disciplinary Motion Against Former Chairman Hong Seongpyo on 23rd Hong Seongpyo former chairman.

The Asan City Council in South Chungcheong Province is expected to convene a plenary session on the 23rd to present a disciplinary motion against former Chairman Hong Seongpyo of the Democratic Party of Korea, who recently caused controversy by delivering a congratulatory speech at his alma mater's graduation ceremony while intoxicated.


According to Asia Economy's coverage on the 15th, the date of the plenary session has not been officially set, but it has been confirmed that an internal decision has already been made.


The Special Ethics Committee will proceed during the 254th extraordinary session, which will be held from the 12th to the 20th of next month.


The level of disciplinary action will be finalized after passing through the Ethics Committee and then the plenary session.


The disciplinary request was submitted to the council secretariat the previous day with the signatures of 10 out of the total 17 city council members.


All eight members of the People Power Party signed the request, and it was confirmed that two neutral-leaning opposition council members also participated.


There are also moves to expel former Chairman Hong from his council seat. People Power Party council members reportedly held a general meeting in the morning and discussed, "In addition to disciplinary action, expulsion is also necessary."


Meanwhile, former Chairman Hong submitted his resignation to the council secretariat the previous day, stating, "I take full responsibility for my actions."
