A male and female police officer in China who disguised themselves as a couple for a drug investigation have attracted attention after becoming a real married couple following the completion of their mission.
According to China News Network on the 15th, police officers Xu Ming and Xian Sasa (both pseudonyms), who operate in Yunnan Province in southwestern China, held their engagement ceremony on the 8th. The two, who were colleagues in the police force, developed a romantic relationship after working together on a drug investigation case in 2021.

At that time, the Yunnan Provincial Police Border Management Unit received information that a large-scale drug deal was about to take place. Xu Ming and Xian Sasa were assigned the mission to investigate the case while posing as a couple. The experienced Xu Ming, who was taking on undercover work for the first time, reassured the nervous Xian Sasa, and they grew closer.
Ultimately, their undercover operation was successful, leading to the dismantling of a drug trafficking network, the arrest of those involved, and the seizure of 21 kg of drugs by the Chinese police. The two, who later became a real couple, promised to marry last year.
Chinese media reported that Xu Ming has been recognized for his skills, having received several individual merit awards, and Xian Sasa was promoted to female investigation team leader based on her achievements in drug investigations.
Meanwhile, China is known for its harsh penalties on drug-related crimes. Article 347 of the Chinese Criminal Law stipulates that anyone who smuggles, sells, transports, or manufactures large quantities of drugs?such as 1 kg or more of opium, 50 g or more of heroin or methamphetamine, or other large amounts of narcotics?shall be sentenced to 15 years of fixed-term imprisonment, life imprisonment, or death. The severity of China’s drug crime punishments, including the actual execution of the death penalty, is generally explained as rooted in historical experience of national crisis caused by drugs introduced by 19th-century Britain.
