This resident briefing session was organized to share the results of the feasibility study on the Yuchon-dong retention basin and to gather opinions on future utilization plans.

The briefing was attended by about 100 Yudeok-dong residents, including neighborhood leaders and members of the welfare council, along with Seo-gu Council member Im Seong-hwa and Seo-gu Office officials.

Councilor Im provided a detailed report to the residents on key service progress such as 'adequacy analysis of the necessity of the retention basin' and 'review of storage methods,' and conducted a procedure to collect residents' opinions on the future plans for utilizing the retention basin, which had been neglected and unpleasantly maintained until now.

Councilor Im Seong-hwa stated, “Yudeok-dong is a rural-urban complex area with infinite development potential, adjacent to Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall as well as Seohaean Expressway and Honam Expressway,” adding, “However, the development of Yudeok-dong has been slow due to the concentration of undesirable facilities such as sewage treatment plants and food waste feed processing facilities.”

She continued, “Through a Ministry of the Interior and Safety public contest project that requires no local funds, we have secured national and city funding (15 billion KRW) and must create the retention basin as a resident-friendly space including cultural and sports facilities and parking lots, which are long-standing projects desired by local residents.”

Meanwhile, Councilor Im Seong-hwa raised issues such as the 'disaster prevention function of the retention basin neglected for 10 years' and 'resident damage caused by weeds and insects' during her '5-minute free speech' at the 2nd regular session of the 317th meeting in December 2023.
