Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) has concretized its vision for fostering the drone leisure industry centered in the metropolitan area and completed its first step.

On the 14th, Pocheon held the final report meeting for the ‘Pocheon Drone Leisure Industry Development Plan’ research project in the city hall conference room, sharing concrete execution strategies for the development of the drone leisure industry.

At the final report meeting, plans were proposed to develop advanced leisure sports such as drone light shows, canyon racing, and drone soccer into international competitions using the Hantangang World Geopark as the stage, linking them with tourism and festivals.

In particular, a strategy was established to attract the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Drone Demonstration City Construction Project’ and to concretize the leap to becoming a drone industry hub within the metropolitan area.

The Drone Demonstration City Construction Project is a project that discovers and proposes drone utilization models tailored to local government characteristics, receives national funding, and promotes research and demonstration.

This research identified various project items for the Drone Demonstration City Construction Project, including swarm drone light shows, drone delivery, drone park creation, and next-generation communication swarm demonstration based on digital twins.

Additionally, the plan presented the idea of attracting companies and startups through the drone leisure industry, linking professional workforce training and startup support to drive regional economic development.

Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon said, “We have prepared a differentiated business model that integrates the drone industry with tourism and leisure sports by maximizing Pocheon’s geographical advantages and the value of the Hantangang World Geopark,” adding, “Starting this year, we will actively promote the project to develop Pocheon as a base for the metropolitan area’s drone leisure industry.”
