S-1 Predicts Key Security Trends for 2025
From CCTV Video Hacking to Advanced AI Solutions, Home Security, and Facial Recognition Countermeasures
CCTV security, artificial intelligence (AI) CCTV construction, expansion of home security solution distribution, and advanced facial recognition solutions are trends that S-1 expects to lead the security market this year. As security threats targeting new technologies increase, the application of more advanced technologies to prevent these threats is expected to accelerate.
On the 15th, S-1 announced the '2025 Security Trends.' The content announced by S-1 this time was based on an analysis of various incident and accident trends and the results of a survey conducted on the company's largest number of customers in the industry and visitors to social networking services (SNS).
First, attacks targeting recently distributed devices are increasing, so the distribution of security solutions to prevent these attacks is expected to grow. A representative threat is CCTV video hacking. As the number of consumers purchasing CCTV cameras with weak security through overseas direct purchases increases, incidents of personal information-containing videos being leaked are occurring one after another. In this survey, 75% of respondents felt that 'CCTV video hacking crimes are increasing.' In fact, in January last year, an incident occurred where about 4,500 videos of citizens' private lives were distributed without authorization. In this survey, 38% expressed willingness to make new investments to prepare for CCTV video hacking crimes, and necessary countermeasures included installing CCTV with security certification (57%), purchasing CCTV from verified companies, and regularly changing recorder passwords.
Going beyond preventing CCTV video leaks, the need to build AI CCTV to help prevent incidents and accidents has also emerged. This is because strengthening safety at industrial sites has become urgent due to laws such as the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. When asked about CCTV-related solutions they would like to introduce to prevent safety accidents, more than half of the respondents, 58%, chose AI CCTV that can recognize accidents in advance. This was followed by CCTV anomaly monitoring services to minimize recording gaps (30%) and additional general CCTV.
The demand for advanced CCTV solutions also exists in homes. As residential facility crimes have emerged as a serious social problem, interest in strengthening security has also increased. The security solutions people want to introduce at home were surveyed as front door CCTV (59%), unmanned security systems (26%), and indoor CCTV (10%) in that order. Recently, home security products are expected to evolve from simple door locks to smart home security solutions composed of advanced solutions such as AI CCTV and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, driven by technological advances and user convenience demands.
S-1 also cited the increase in counterfeit face attacks attempting to bypass facial recognition technology as a major security trend this year. In China, where facial recognition systems are widespread, a video showing a facial recognition payment system being deceived by a mask made with a 3D printer spread on the internet, becoming an issue. An S-1 official said, "Counterfeit face attacks and defense technologies are like the relationship between viruses and vaccines, so when counterfeit face technology appears, facial recognition solutions that identify them must also be advanced."
