The Jeollanam-do Autonomous Police Committee (Chairperson: Jung Soonkwan) held an internal briefing on the 13th to reaffirm their commitment to creating a safer Jeollanam-do in the new year.

The Jeollanam-do Autonomous Police Committee launched its second term last May, presenting the vision of “Autonomous policing with residents, a safe Jeollanam-do where citizens are happy.”

Jeonnam Autonomous Police Committee Strengthens New Year's Resolution for "Making Jeonnam Safer" The Jeonnam Autonomous Police Committee held a report meeting titled "Creating a Safer Jeonnam" on the 13th, attended by all staff members, reaffirming their resolve for the new year. The committee evaluated that it has worked to enhance the sense of public safety through various initiatives reflecting the region’s characteristics such as rural areas, islands, and an aging population, focusing on the main functions of autonomous police: public safety, protection of the socially vulnerable, and traffic safety.

In the field of public safety, smart poles and intelligent CCTVs were installed in crime-prone areas to establish a “proactive crime prevention” system. The committee also actively promoted the “Safe and Smart Island” project based on AI, which has been recognized as a new model that combines science and policing.

To maximize the use of security drones in island areas where police activities are challenging, the committee established an on-site control system and distributed safety items such as 3,000 illegal camera detection cards. Notably, the nation’s first “Autonomous Police Search Dog Center” was established, creating an early detection system for missing persons?one of last year’s major achievements.

In the field of traffic, the committee is intensively managing 463 accident-prone areas through activities such as “Improving Our Neighborhood Traffic Environment,” which involves direct resident participation in traffic safety facility improvements, and “Improvement of Traffic Fatality Sites” in cooperation with road management authorities.

Additionally, the committee has promoted autonomous police through various campaigns, including broadcasting videos via elevator monitors and outdoor electronic displays, running the “Autonomous Police Partners” program with 105 university students, hosting the “Autonomous Police Awareness Quiz Contest,” and organizing a “Content Contest.”

However, it was pointed out that the lack of a visible implementation schedule for the prompt “dualization of the autonomous police system,” which is necessary for autonomous policing tailored to regional characteristics, remains an issue that needs to be addressed.
