Ju Nak-young Emphasizes “Let Us Create Dreams Toward the Future Millennium Together”
Twenty-six New Public Officials Strengthen Their Resolve with Iksun-gwan and Mokminsimseo, Symbols of Integrity
Newly appointed rookie public officials, known as the 'public servants of Gyeongju citizens,' selected for 2024 in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk Province, have made a strong start and approached the citizens.
On the 13th, Gyeongju City held a commissioning ceremony for 26 new public officials in the large conference room of the city hall, encouraging them as they took their first step into public service.
The newly appointed public officials on this day belong to nine job categories including administration, taxation, security, engineering, green space, nursing, facilities, broadcasting and communications, and driving, all of whom were final successful candidates of the 2024 first open competitive recruitment exam.
After completing three weeks of basic training, they will be assigned to various administrative frontlines such as the main office, business sites, and townships. The commissioning ceremony began with the public officials' oath and a pledge to practice integrity.
In particular, the unique sight of all new public officials wearing traditional Silla costumes and the Iksun-gwan, symbolizing integrity, attracted attention. Along with a commissioning certificate in the form of a school document, they received the "Mokminsimseo" by Jeong Yak-yong, reaffirming their commitment as public officials.
The Silla costume commissioning ceremony has been a tradition continued by Gyeongju City since 2020. The Iksun-gwan resembles the wings of a cicada and symbolizes integrity, while the "Mokminsimseo" emphasizes the attitude of public officials who combine professionalism and creativity.
Mayor Ju Nak-young of Gyeongju encouraged the new public officials, saying, “Your bold challenges are needed for the successful hosting of the historic 2025 APEC Summit and for Gyeongju to leap forward as a global millennium city,” and added, “As public officials of Gyeongju, where brilliant history and tradition breathe, let us create dreams toward the future millennium together.”
Meanwhile, after completing all the proceedings, the new public officials shouted “Fighting” and pledged a vigorous start for the happiness of citizens and a bright future for Gyeongju.
