Angelina Jolie Opens Home for LA Wildfire Evacuees

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie (49) has attracted attention for her donation activities to help victims who lost their homes due to the massive wildfire in Los Angeles (LA), California.

On the 11th (local time), American entertainment media such as Variety reported that Jolie was spotted purchasing large quantities of water, daily necessities, and food at a grocery store with her son Knox (16). In an interview with a media outlet, Jolie said, "We have people at our house," adding, "We plan to have them stay at our home and also intend to donate (daily necessities) to other evacuees affected by the wildfire."

Recently, a fire that started in Pacific Palisades, an affluent area of LA, burned approximately 160㎢ of land in western California. The U.S. Associated Press reported that the area damaged by this fire was even larger than San Francisco, California's largest city.

The wildfire also consumed affluent neighborhoods such as Palisades and Malibu, reportedly affecting celebrities including Hollywood actors Mel Gibson, Miles Teller, Anthony Hopkins, and Paris Hilton.

Jolie is not the only star participating in the donation efforts. Actresses Sharon Stone and Halle Berry donated clothes, shoes, and bags. Britain's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle also visited temporary shelters to comfort evacuees and reportedly opened their home in Santa Barbara to neighbors with nowhere else to go.

Meanwhile, as of the previous day, the LA wildfire showed containment rates ranging from 11% to 27% depending on the area. The LA County Police announced that the death toll has risen by 8 to a total of 24. The scale of damage continues to increase. The number of buildings burned has exceeded 12,000, and evacuation orders have been issued for 150,000 people across LA, with more than 700 staying in 9 shelters.
