140 Meters of Ttukseom-ro 36ga-gil Designated as One-Way, Sidewalks Widened on Ttukseom-ro 40-gil
Curb Ramps Installed and Resident-Priority Parking Zones Removed to Enhance Pedestrian Safety and Convenience
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has improved the pedestrian environment around Tuyang 3-dong Ttukseom-ro 36ga-gil and Ttukseom-ro 40-gil.
This area is a residential neighborhood surrounded by apartments, frequented by many residents. There have been complaints from residents for several years due to resident-priority parking zones and narrow sidewalks.
In response, the district invested 162 million KRW to improve the pedestrian environment in the area. Starting with design services in 2023, the process included gathering residents' opinions, reviewing traffic safety facilities, and commencing construction, resulting in a pedestrian-friendly street transformation in January this year.
Ttukseom-ro 36ga-gil had its 140-meter section changed from two-way traffic to one-way traffic. Additionally, road markings were improved and new traffic safety signs were installed.
On the 95-meter section of Ttukseom-ro 40-gil, the resident-priority parking zones were removed and sidewalks on both sides were widened. The sidewalk width was expanded from 1.2 meters to 2 meters to secure pedestrian space, and curb ramps were installed to enhance convenience for vulnerable road users.
A resident living in Jayang 3-dong said, “I used to feel uneasy and inconvenienced passing through here because of cars parked in the resident-priority parking zones and two-way traffic, but now that the road is wider and cleaner, I feel reassured.”
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We have transformed a congested area that was inconvenient and risky for accidents into a pleasant and safe street. We will continue to do our best to create a pedestrian environment where all residents can walk with peace of mind.”
