Strengthened Patrols on Major Routes for Multi-Passenger Vessels
Maintaining Immediate Readiness of Rescue Forces... Safety of Homecoming Travelers as Top Priority

West Sea Regional Coast Guard (Commissioner Lee Myungjun) will implement the "Comprehensive Marine Safety Management Measures for the Lunar New Year Holiday" until the 24th.

According to the West Sea Regional Coast Guard on the 13th, with the designation of the 27th as a temporary holiday, this year's Lunar New Year holiday will be longer than usual. As a result, it is expected that more homecoming travelers and families will visit island regions using passenger ships and ferries than in previous years.

The main contents of the comprehensive marine safety management measures include: △strengthened aerial patrols in vulnerable areas △increased deployment of patrol vessels on major routes used by multi-passenger ships △enhanced prevention of coastal accidents and strengthened safety management for water leisure activities △forward deployment of special forces and special anti-terrorism security activities during peak hours at passenger ship terminals (before and after ship arrivals and departures) △safety rule education and guidance for fishermen to prevent winter fishing vessel fires △random inspections of fishing vessels entering and leaving ports (checking passenger lists), and more.

In particular, the Coast Guard will also establish a cooperation system with private organizations, maintain readiness for emergency response forces, and conduct preliminary inspections of other hazardous facilities such as oil and hazardous chemical storage facilities.

Lee Myungjun, Commissioner of the West Sea Regional Coast Guard, stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure marine safety management to protect homecoming travelers and tourists using passenger ships and ferries during the Lunar New Year holiday," and urged, "We ask everyone to follow safety rules, such as wearing life jackets, to prevent accidents at sea."
