Selected as an Outstanding Region in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 2024 Regional Safety Index Evaluation
Gyeryong City in Chungnam has been selected as the safest city in the nation for the second consecutive year.
On the 13th, Gyeryong City announced that it was chosen as an outstanding region in the "2024 Regional Safety Index" evaluation conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Regional Safety Index is evaluated in accordance with the Framework Act on Disaster and Safety Management to strengthen the safety management responsibility of local governments and to create a safer society through voluntary improvements in vulnerable areas.
This evaluation consisted of six indicators: traffic accidents, fires, crime, daily safety, suicide, and infectious diseases.
The city received a grade 1 in four areas: traffic accidents, fires, crime, and infectious diseases, and a grade 2 in daily safety and suicide.
In particular, the city earned a grade 1 for road surface markings and traffic sign maintenance, installation of smart bus stops, improvement projects for children's protection zones, pedestrian road maintenance, and efficient signal system operations.
Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, "A safe living environment is the most important factor for the happiness and safety of our citizens, so we are focusing our administrative efforts on creating a city where citizens can live with peace of mind," and added, "We will do our best to continue promoting safety policies so that we can maintain our reputation as the safest city in the nation."
