The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) sent out tax bills on the 10th for 22,636 cases of automobile tax (including local education tax) pre-paid in January this year, totaling 6.2 billion KRW.
According to Guri City on the 13th, if the automobile tax, which is usually paid twice a year (in June and December), is paid in advance in January, a 4.6% deduction can be received on the annual tax amount for the period from February to December. Applications can also be made in March, June, or September, but paying in January offers the greatest tax-saving effect. (3.8% discount for March applications, 2.5% for June, and 1.3% for September)
Applications can be made by visiting the Taxation Division of Guri City by the end of this month, or via phone or online (Wetax).
However, if the automobile tax was pre-paid in the previous year, the pre-payment tax bill for this year will be sent without a separate application.
If payment is not made after applying for pre-payment, the application will be canceled, and the regular tax bills will be issued in June and December respectively. If the vehicle is transferred or scrapped after pre-payment, the automobile tax after the date of transfer (or scrapping) will be calculated on a pro-rata basis and refunded.
Payment is possible at all banks and post offices nationwide, and can be conveniently made without visiting a bank by using △ Wetax, △ Giro, △ local tax revenue account transfers without transfer fees, or △ the simple payment system.
