Focusing on Commercial Areas and Detached Houses with High Residential and Floating Populations
Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju has designated 80 locations where illegal dumping of trash frequently occurs for intensive management.
According to the district office on the 13th, this measure was implemented to reduce gaps in street environment maintenance during weekends and holidays, and to respond to increased waste collection and illegal dumping after Mondays and holidays.
Accordingly, the district plans to designate 80 habitual illegal dumping sites, mainly in commercial areas and densely populated residential neighborhoods, as special management zones (Clean Zones) and operate dedicated management and maintenance teams.
The dedicated team, consisting of about 10 members, will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining these habitual dumping sites during holidays.
Since last year, the district has made various efforts, such as daily collection of standard garbage bags, optimizing cleaning vehicle routes, and introducing hydrogen cleaning vehicles. As a result, the number of civil complaints related to household waste collection last year was 1,401, a 65% decrease compared to 4,097 cases the previous year.
