Focus on Inspection of Ceremonial Foods Such as Pork, Beef, and Jogi
The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Autonomous Police Corps (Chief Park Kinam) will conduct a special crackdown on violations of country of origin labeling ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. This crackdown, which will take place from the 15th to the 31st, is intended to preemptively block illegal activities that seek to take advantage of the holiday season.
The Autonomous Police Corps has been intensively cracking down on country of origin labeling violations every year. Over the past three years, they have uncovered 85 cases: 35 in 2022, 24 in 2023, and 26 in 2024.
This special crackdown will focus on traditional markets, large supermarkets, major restaurants, and specialty product stores. The authorities will pay particular attention to violations regarding the labeling of major ceremonial foods such as pork, beef, Okdom, and Jogi, and will also intensively clamp down on illegal activities involving Jeju specialty products (such as the distribution of non-standard tangerines and box swapping).
Park Sanghyun, head of the Investigation Division, stated, "Despite annual crackdowns, illegal activities continue. By working in cooperation with related agencies such as the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service and the National Fisheries Products Quality Management Service, we will preemptively block violations targeting the holiday season, so that residents and tourists can safely purchase food."
