The Professors' Scholarship Association of Dong-A University’s Department of Food and Nutrition began awarding scholarships in 2023 to current students who are expected to become future leaders, with participation from all professors in the department. Later, in September of last year, the scholarship was named the ‘Magnolia Scholarship’ in honor of the late Professor An Mok-ryeon.
The ‘Ieum Scholarship’ is awarded by the Department of Food and Nutrition Alumni Scholarship Association and was initiated with the spirit of alumni unity and the love of senior alumni for their juniors. The late Professor An Mok-ryeon, an alumnus of Dong-A University’s Department of Food and Nutrition, also played a significant role in the Ieum Scholarship Association during her lifetime.
The family of the late Professor An Mok-ryeon said, “Professor An truly loved the school, the department professors, and her juniors and students, and worked passionately. We are grateful to those who spent as much time with her as family and who understand her wishes well enough to organize this event,” adding, “We hope the students who received the scholarships will remember Professor An for a long time and become people who continue to develop.”
President Lee Hae-woo said, “It was heartbreaking and painful to see a beloved professor leave,” and added, “Although we intended only to accept the family’s wishes, the department prepared a meaningful scholarship fund ceremony, so I believe Professor An is watching from heaven.”
Jeon Mi-ra, Dean of Academic Affairs and professor in the Department of Food and Nutrition, said, “There are many diverse and talented professors in the department, but Professor An was the only one who faithfully fulfilled the role of ‘Ieum’ as both an alumnus and a professor,” and added, “We take pride in being the largest Department of Food and Nutrition in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region and will continue to strive to be the best department nationwide.”
Jang Hye-won, a recipient of the Magnolia Scholarship, said, “I worked on a team project with Professor An Mok-ryeon during the first semester of last year, and it was meaningful to be with her until the end,” and added, “I will strive to contribute to the department and become a good student in accordance with the professor’s wishes.”
