Chuncheon City Expands Electric Bicycle Purchase Support Amount and Number of Beneficiaries

Support for up to 100 people, maximum subsidy of 500,000 KRW

Chuncheon City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Yuk Dong-han) has increased the subsidy amount by 25% and significantly expanded the number of recipients this year to promote the spread of eco-friendly transportation, electric bicycles.

On the 13th, Chuncheon City announced that it will recruit preliminary candidates for the 2025 electric bicycle purchase subsidy program from January 14 to February 4.

The electric bicycle purchase subsidy program has been promoted since 2022 to diversify transportation options and activate the use of bicycles as an eco-friendly means of transportation. It has received great response every year, aiming to contribute to carbon neutrality in daily life as well as promote a healthy life for citizens.

This year, the number of recipients and the subsidy scale have been expanded. The number of recipients increased by 25 from last year to 100, and the maximum subsidy amount was raised from 400,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW.

Eligible recipients must be citizens aged 18 or older as of the announcement date and must have continuously resided in Chuncheon with their resident registration for more than one year.

Selected recipients can receive a subsidy of 50% of the purchase price, up to 500,000 KRW, when purchasing a pedal-assist (PAS) type electric bicycle at a local store.

The eligible pedal-assist (PAS) electric bicycles must move by simultaneous power from pedals (including hand pedals) and the motor; movement by motor alone is not allowed.

Additionally, the motor must stop operating when traveling at speeds over 25 km/h, and the total weight of the bicycle, including attached devices, must be less than 30 kg.

Bicycles that can move solely by motor power without pedaling, such as throttle or combined PAS/throttle types, or those who have received electric bicycle purchase subsidies from 2022 to 2024, are excluded from eligibility.

Applications can be made through the ‘Electric Bicycle Purchase Subsidy Program’ banner on the Chuncheon City Hall website, and the lottery will be held on February 11.
