Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) Health Center's ongoing '365 Health Companion Service' is gaining attention as an excellent case that practically contributes to the health and emotional stability of the elderly, breathing new hope into their lives.

The '365 Health Companion Service' is a project in which the 'Health Companion Team,' composed of professional personnel from the district health center, visits the homes of elderly people aged 65 and over who need health management to provide customized medical and welfare services.

The 'Health Companion Team,' consisting of doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and exercise specialists, improves the quality of life for the elderly through comprehensive services such as ▲ health consultations ▲ pain treatment and rehabilitation ▲ dietary management guidance.

Through this service, the district focuses on not only restoring the physical health of the elderly but also alleviating emotional isolation, encouraging their will to live, delivering warmth from the local community, and providing new motivation for life.

Mr. A, an elderly person in his 80s, had lost his will to live amid economic difficulties and emotional isolation while bedridden due to long-term solitary living and severe back pain. Recognizing this, the Health Companion Team built trust with him through regular visits and provided tailored services such as nutritional supplements and health consultations. As a result, Mr. A, who was underweight, regained his strength and began walking on his own, recently showing interest in managing his diet. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “No one cared about me before, so I spent each day feeling helpless. Thanks to the sincere care of the Health Companion Team, I have found the courage to live.”

Additionally, during a regular visit last year, the team discovered Mr. B, a man in his 70s, in a critical condition due to hypoglycemic shock. Thanks to the Health Companion Team’s prompt emergency treatment and the 119 emergency call, he received hospital care and safely recovered his health. Mr. B’s family expressed their gratitude, saying, “If it weren’t for the quick response of the Health Companion Team, we might have lost a precious family member.”

As such, the '365 Health Companion Service' goes beyond simple health management to enhance the quality of life and save the lives of the elderly, establishing itself as a model case of community care.

Elderly individuals wishing to apply for the '365 Health Companion Service' can inquire at their nearest community center or the district health center’s Health Promotion Division. Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon stated, “The active and sincere efforts of the Health Companion Team have given new hope to the elderly,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to activate the Health Companion Service so that the elderly can continuously enjoy healthy lives and emotional stability.”
