Choi Sang-mok, Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister of Economy and Finance, requested on the 13th that there should be no clashes regarding the execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, asking for efforts at the National Assembly level.
Acting President Choi met with Kwon Young-se, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, at the National Assembly main building that morning and said, "Regarding the ongoing execution of the arrest warrant, under no circumstances should citizens be injured or any unfortunate incidents caused by physical clashes occur."
He added, "I have repeatedly urged related agencies as well, but I ask for efforts from the National Assembly level."
In particular, Acting President Choi said, "I understand that discussions are scheduled, but I ask that both ruling and opposition parties jointly prepare a special prosecutor bill without unconstitutional elements," and added, "In that process, I ask Chairman Kwon to demonstrate leadership."
Acting President Choi also requested the revitalization of the ruling-opposition-government policy consultation body.
He emphasized, "This is a national crisis situation. To overcome political uncertainty and difficulties in people’s livelihoods and to effectively respond to the inauguration of the new U.S. administration in a week, the ruling party, opposition, and government must join forces."
He continued, "Above all, I hope the policy consultation body involving the ruling party, opposition, and government, which participates in matters of people’s livelihoods, economy, and trade, will be revitalized," and said, "Through this, I hope that livelihood-related bills still pending in the National Assembly, such as the Restriction of Special Taxation Act, the Semiconductor Special Act, and the Electricity Act, will be promptly passed."
Acting President Choi stated, "Although people’s livelihoods are difficult, the government will make every effort with all ministries as one team for the stability of livelihoods and national administration."
