"People Do Not Want to Replace Yoon Seok-yeol With Lee Jae-myung"
"Lee Jae-myung Will Not Come to Power"
Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo pointed out on the 12th, "Just because the people want a regime change does not mean they want to replace Yoon Seok-yeol with Lee Jae-myung."
On the same day, Mayor Hong said on his Facebook, "If the thoughts and governing styles are different, even if it is a change within the same party, it counts as a regime change. When the regime changed from MB (former President Lee Myung-bak) to Park Geun-hye, a large number of people saw it as a regime change," he said.
He added, "It is clearly shown in the polls. 65% of the people want a regime change, but Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating is only around 35%. No matter how high the regime change index is, if the regime change with Lee Jae-myung is more than 30% lower and Lee Jae-myung’s disapproval rate is close to 60%, it is proof that our people do not want a criminal or a rioter as president." He continued, "Don’t waste your efforts and don’t overdo it. Lee Jae-myung will never come to power," adding, "You will know when the real game starts."
Earlier, on the 8th, Mayor Hong also issued a critical message targeting Lee. He criticized the Democratic Party for withdrawing the charge of treason from the impeachment reasons against President Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, "They hastily held the presidential election and schemed to get the presidency for free like during the Moon Jae-in administration, so it had to get complicated." He added, "Would the people make the most immoral criminal and rioter their president?"
Meanwhile, according to the nationwide index survey (NBS) conducted from the 6th to the 8th by Embrain Public, K-stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research targeting 1,000 men and women aged 18 and over, the support rate for the People Power Party in the second week of January was 32%. Compared to the previous survey conducted on December 19 last year, the support rate for the People Power Party rose by 6 percentage points (p) in three weeks. The support rate for the Democratic Party of Korea was 36%, down 3%p from the previous survey.
In the question about the most suitable candidate for the next president, 31% chose Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, the highest percentage. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo both had 7%, former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon had 5%, People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo had 4%, and National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik had 3%. In this question, 32% answered "none," "don’t know," or did not respond.
This NBS survey was conducted via telephone interviews using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 22.8%.
