Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police to Focus Investigation on Five Major Crimes Closely Related to Residents' Daily Lives and Specific Offenses

Gyeonggi Province has established the "2025 Special Judicial Police Investigation Plan" aiming for a safe and healthy society and will conduct investigations throughout the year.

First, Gyeonggi Province will strengthen day and night patrols to completely block the distribution of leaflets threatening the lives and safety of residents in the border areas with North Korea. Upon discovering any dangerous or illegal factors, the principle of preemptive response will be applied to thoroughly check compliance with safety measures and promptly investigate any illegal activities found.

Additionally, new investigation areas will be identified according to social issues or current affairs to build a safety net for residents.

In particular, this year, the focus will be on investigating five major livelihood crimes closely related to residents' daily lives, such as illegal acts in food manufacturing and sales, along with specific crimes like illegal lending.

The five major livelihood crime areas infringing on the daily lives of ordinary citizens, prepared by Gyeonggi Province, are ▲ Environmental Pollution (illegal disposal of waste, wastewater, fine dust, discarded clothing, and waste fabric, etc.) ▲ Respect for Life (manufacturing and sales of pharmaceuticals and health functional foods, etc.) ▲ Food Safety (illegal acts in food manufacturing and sales, illegal acts in experience villages, illegal acts in on-site restaurants and Korean buffet restaurants, etc.) ▲ Nature Protection (illegal acts in forests, development-restricted zones, illegal acts in recreational areas such as valleys and rivers, etc.) ▲ Life Safety (illegal lodging businesses, unregistered beauty businesses, etc.).

In the specific crime areas, the focus will be on ▲ Economic crimes such as illegal lending businesses and trademark infringement ▲ Crimes targeting youth (selling harmful substances such as alcoholic beverages or electronic cigarettes to minors) ▲ Welfare crimes (embezzlement and misuse of social welfare facility subsidies) ▲ Animal protection (animal abuse such as slaughter, violations of business permits and registrations).

The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police previously declared the eradication of illegal lending businesses that destroy the lives of ordinary citizens and announced plans for intensive investigations this year on acts such as charging interest rates exceeding the legal limit and unregistered lending (advertising) activities.

Furthermore, starting from the 6th, they will focus efforts on eradicating illegal activities that may cause harm to safe daily life across residents’ lives, including the ongoing investigation into "illegal acts related to food for the whole family during the Lunar New Year holiday."

The Special Judicial Police will distribute informational leaflets containing types of illegal acts and legal compliance requirements to prevent becoming offenders due to carelessness or negligence. They also plan to enhance awareness and prevention of similar crimes by providing guidance on investigation areas, continuously promoting investigation plans and results, and producing promotional videos about investigations.

Gi-do Ki, Chief of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police, stated, "The activities of the Special Judicial Police prioritize residents' safety and trust is the most important. We will do our best to ensure that positive influence can be exerted based on sincerity." He added, "Despite sufficient prior guidance and publicity, illegal acts that are detected will be strictly punished according to law and principles. We ask residents to actively report any illegal activities they witness."

Meanwhile, last year, the Special Judicial Police transferred a total of 711 illegal cases to the prosecution across 31 job fields.
