Distribution of Five Types of Reading Education Materials
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is launching an initiative to foster a "culture of reading together."
On the 12th, the Gwangju Office of Education announced that it had developed and distributed a total of five types of reading education materials to schools, including two resources for reading education during autonomous school hours and three resources for the "One Book per Semester (Whole Book Reading)" program, in order to enhance the effectiveness of reading education in the classroom.
These materials have been prepared to support this year's "Back to Books, Together with Books" project, following last year's "Back to Books" campaign.
The reading education materials for autonomous school hours are based on the 2022 revised curriculum and include "Books, Let's Play Together!" for elementary schools and "Embracing Books: Questions Embraced by Books" for middle schools. These resources are designed to help students encounter books from various genres and develop critical thinking and creative expression skills.
The three types of "One Book per Semester (Whole Book Reading)" materials are linked to the curriculum and focus on helping students plan their own reading activities and participate in reading-related discussions, writing, and presentations appropriate to their school level.
The elementary school resource, "Read Books, Connect the World!" aims to spark students' interest in reading, while the middle school resource, "Challenge for Literacy Mastery through Non-Competitive Reading Discussions," supports students in improving literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills in a non-competitive environment through reading discussions.
The high school resource, "One Book, One Step," will provide students with the opportunity to read one book in depth over the course of a semester. All five resources include a variety of reference cases and student activity sheets to aid understanding.
These materials are available to everyone on the city education office's website.
