Yoon, 3% Salary Increase... Receives 22 Million Won Monthly Despite 'Suspension'

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo's Monthly Salary Set at 16.96 Million KRW

The annual salary of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was suspended from duty after the impeachment motion was passed in the National Assembly, has been set at 262 million KRW, a 3.0% increase from last year.

According to the 2025 civil servant salary regulations announced by the Ministry of Personnel Management on the 12th, the president's salary this year is 262.58 million KRW, up 3.0% from last year's 254.93 million KRW. The increase rate is the same as the overall civil servant salary increase rate this year. Although the impeachment trial is ongoing, a pre-tax monthly salary of about 22 million KRW is being paid. However, since the details of the president's salary are confidential, there may be differences from the actual amount paid.

Under the current National Public Service Act, there are no separate legal provisions restricting salary payments for civil servants subject to impeachment motions, so salaries are paid in full until the Constitutional Court's decision is made.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who is also suspended from duty due to the passage of the impeachment motion, will receive an annual salary of 203.56 million KRW this year, with a pre-tax monthly salary of 16.96 million KRW.

As criticism has arisen over the continued payment of salaries to President Yoon and Prime Minister Han during their suspension, the Democratic Party recently introduced a bill to amend the National Public Service Act to reduce the salaries of civil servants who have been subject to impeachment motions by the full amount.

Democratic Party lawmaker Park Yong-gap pointed out, “It not only violates the 'no work, no pay' principle but also does not align with public sentiment toward a president impeached for constitutional violations and political misconduct,” and fellow party member Jang Cheol-min also said, “Paying salaries during suspension to civil servants impeached for serious misconduct does not align with public sentiment.” Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Ho-jung also explained, “The public’s tax money is being spent unreasonably.”
