According to the British BBC broadcast on the 10th (local time), the wildfire swept through the coastal Malibu residential area, completely destroying the home of actor Mel Gibson, famous for movies such as "Braveheart." Gibson was visiting Austin, Texas, to appear on a podcast at the time of the fire. The destroyed house was where he had lived for 15 years, and it was reported that Gibson's family evacuated to escape the fire.
Gibson harshly criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, during the podcast broadcast. He said, "The governor said he would solve the wildfire problem, but he did nothing," adding, "In my opinion, all our taxes went into Gavin's hair gel."
Gibson supported President-elect Donald Trump in last year's U.S. presidential election. In addition, celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Jeff Bridges, Billy Crystal, Adam Brody, and Milo Ventimiglia are also reported to have lost their homes in the wildfire. Paris Hilton has started an emergency fundraising campaign for the affected residents.
Meanwhile, at least 11 people have died and more than 180,000 have evacuated due to the LA wildfire that started on the 7th. As the flames remain uncontrolled, property damage continues to increase like a snowball.
