A New Space Utilizing Digital Technology Established at Dongdaemun-gu Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center
Various Programs Prepared for Physical Activities and Development of People with Disabilities
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced on January 10th that the Smart Development Training Center (AI Dongteuneun Center) was officially opened at the Dongdaemun-gu Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center (Director Juyeon Hwang).
The welfare center was selected for the 2024 Seoul Smart Development Training Center project and established a center approximately 32 pyeong (104.84㎡) in size, offering various programs to support physical activities and development for people with disabilities.
The center consists of a digital experience and play area, rehabilitation and cognitive training facilities, and sports training facilities. The digital experience and play area utilizes advanced digital equipment such as 3XR screens and 3D motion systems to provide training for large muscle groups, physical activities, and upper and lower limb development for people with disabilities.
In the rehabilitation and cognitive training facilities, training is conducted using iFit floors and touch tables to enhance play, cognitive abilities, and lower limb development. The sports training facilities are equipped with a wheelchair racing system to enable aerobic exercise, large muscle activities, and upper limb development training.
The opening ceremony included a user commemorative speech, congratulatory remarks from guests, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and program demonstrations. The center will initially operate on a pilot basis for welfare center users, gradually expanding through phased pilot operations. Additionally, new programs are planned to be launched starting in February.
Juyeon Hwang, Director of the Dongdaemun-gu Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center, stated, “We will strive to make the AI Dongteuneun Center a space that further strengthens the independence and social participation of people with disabilities,” adding, “We will actively support people with disabilities to nurture their dreams and hopes in step with the changing times.”
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We will continue efforts to ensure that people with disabilities can receive high-quality physical activities and rehabilitation treatment at the smart training center utilizing digital technology.”
