On the 10th, the Criminal Division 15 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Yang Hwan-seung) announced that it had received a bail application from Seong, the former vice president of Woori Bank, who was recently indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes (breach of trust). The court plans to hold a bail hearing at 11:15 a.m. on the 14th.

Seong is accused of approving illegal loans totaling approximately 15.4 billion KRW over four occasions from April 2020 to early this year. The prosecution investigated Woori Bank for executing loans amounting to 61.6 billion KRW targeting relatives of Sohn Tae-seung, former chairman of Woori Financial Group, and judged that more than half of this amount, about 35 billion KRW, constituted preferential improper loans.

Accordingly, the prosecution sent Seong to trial in custody in November last year. Meanwhile, the prosecution is continuing its investigation, believing that former chairman Sohn was involved in the improper loans. The prosecution filed two arrest warrants for former chairman Sohn last year, but the court dismissed both.
