Naver announced on the 10th that it has disclosed the results of verification by an independent external audit institution on the handling of telecommunications secrecy protection tasks on the 'Naver Privacy Center.'
Naver is the only domestic company that has been verified every three years since 2015 by an independent external audit institution to ensure that it properly performs tasks for the protection of telecommunications secrecy in accordance with relevant laws. This time, the scope of verification was expanded to include Naver Cloud, and the legality and appropriateness of tasks were verified for four entities: Naver, Naver Financial, Naver Webtoon, and Naver Cloud.
In this report, Naver was verified to comply with relevant laws and perform tasks appropriately in various areas including ▲search and seizure warrants ▲communication restriction measures ▲provision of communication fact confirmation data ▲court fact inquiries and submission orders ▲credit information protection tasks. It was also confirmed that Naver strictly performs tasks according to relevant laws when handling other telecommunications secrecy protection tasks such as defamation dispute mediation.
According to the report, Naver has been proactively taking various measures to protect users beyond legal responsibilities and obligations regarding personal information protection, such as implementing a 'Dedicated Attorney System for Comprehensive Warrant Review.' It was also assessed that Naver is continuously improving its management level of telecommunications secrecy protection tasks to safeguard users' telecommunications secrecy and personal information.
Lee Jin-gyu, Naver’s Chief Privacy Officer (CPO/DPO/CISO), said, "Since conducting the first external auditor verification of telecommunications secrecy protection tasks in Korea in 2015, we have strengthened overall protection tasks in line with legal amendments and system improvements, while transparently disclosing the status of task handling. We will continue to make various efforts to actively protect users' personal information and privacy."
