Crackdown on Illegal Origin Practices of Food and Agricultural, Livestock, and Fishery Products Until the 24th
Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) will conduct intensive crackdowns on illegal activities related to food, agricultural, fishery, and livestock products until the 24th of this month ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
This crackdown activity involves forming inspection teams composed of employees with expertise in each field and citizen honorary inspectors, focusing on local commercial districts and traditional markets. The inspection method includes visiting traditional markets, shops selling fried foods and Je-su (ancestral ritual) dishes, food manufacturing and sales businesses in Seongsu, and livestock product manufacturing and sales businesses.
The inspection items include unsanitary handling of food, non-compliance with preservation and distribution standards such as selling thawed frozen products, selling products past their expiration date, and acts such as unlabeling or false labeling that infringe on residents' right to know. The district will take strict measures against violations found during inspections and provide administrative guidance on minor issues on-site to create a safe food environment for residents.
On the 10th, in cooperation with Seoul City and other autonomous districts, a joint public-private cross-inspection among autonomous districts in Seoul will be conducted to enhance the effectiveness of the crackdown.
District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “We will strictly crack down on illegal activities that exploit the Lunar New Year period for price speculation and threaten food safety, causing public anxiety,” and added, “We ask for active reporting if any violations are found.”
