Gyeonggi Province is set to launch a call for name suggestions for its ‘Lifelong Reading Project’ until the 14th, ahead of promoting the spread of reading culture.
The Lifelong Reading Project is Gyeonggi Province’s representative reading promotion initiative, a policy project involving local bookstores, the publishing industry, reading organizations, and libraries to foster reading habits and create a supportive environment for residents.
Gyeonggi Province will implement reading-related programs tailored to each life stage, enabling participation in reading activities from infants aged one to seniors aged 100. These programs include My First Library in Life, revitalization of reading clubs, lectures by notable figures, and reading camps.
Furthermore, starting in the second half of this year, the province plans to operate a reading platform to encourage residents’ reading activities and provide Reading Support Points for activities such as purchasing books, borrowing, and writing reviews.
To promote the significance of the project and encourage participation in reading activities, Gyeonggi Province will hold a name suggestion event in the form of comments on its official Instagram (@gyeonggi_official) from the 10th to the 14th.
The contest is open to all citizens nationwide. Participants can automatically enter by submitting a name and a brief meaning for the Lifelong Reading Project that fits the theme of ‘a life transformed (grown) through reading one thousand books in a lifetime’ in the comments.
After expert review, Gyeonggi Province will award tablet PCs to the three selected outstanding idea submitters, and mobile gift certificates to 30 others chosen by lottery.
Kang Hyun-seok, Director of the Future Lifelong Education Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "If you accumulate 10 minutes of reading every day, an adult can read one thousand books in a lifetime, and the emotions and experiences gained from reading one thousand books will become precious nutrients for life." He added, "I hope that one book will lead to a lifelong reading habit, and that personal growth and change through reading will in turn lead to the growth and change of Gyeonggi Province."
