Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on the 9th (local time) that he plans to have a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping soon.
According to TASS and RIA Novosti, President Putin chaired a government meeting via video conference on the same day and said, "I will have a phone call soon with my colleague, the Chinese leader." After receiving a report from Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova on cooperation in film production with China, he instructed that the related materials be submitted so they can be used during the call with "our friends in China."
President Putin and President Xi last spoke by phone in February of last year. Since then, they have met in person during Putin’s state visit to China, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, and the BRICS summit.
This video conference was the first government meeting of the year. President Putin chaired the meeting focusing on new national projects to be promoted. At the meeting, he pointed out that the response to the oil spill incident involving an oil tanker in the Kerch Strait of the Black Sea on the 15th of last year has not been sufficient and demanded the formation of a committee to prevent oil spills and damage in the event of future oil tanker accidents.
