First Success in Student Athletic Club Players Advancing to Professional Teams
The National Pukyong National University Sports Promotion Center (Director Shin Jong-dae) announced on the 9th that Choi Han-seok, a student of the rowing team (coach Lee Jun-cheol), has joined the professional team Chungju City Hall Rowing Team.
Choi Han-seok, a senior majoring in Marine Sports at Pukyong National University, is set to graduate this February and has confirmed his entry into the Chungju City Hall Rowing Team, where he will actively compete as a professional athlete after graduation.
After entering Pukyong National University, he joined the student sports club rowing team and stood out by sweeping various medals at numerous competitions such as the National Beach Rowing Competition, Jangbogo National Rowing Competition, National Rowing Championships, and the Presidential National Rowing Competition since his freshman year.
Choi Han-seok said, “Although I started rowing relatively late, I think I achieved good results by not losing passion and working hard throughout college. I want to prepare diligently for this year’s competitions and achieve good results.”
With Choi Han-seok’s entry into the professional team, Pukyong National University has produced its first professional athlete since converting the rowing team from a varsity team to a student sports club in 2017.
Coach Lee Jun-cheol of the rowing team said, “As the paradigm of school sports shifts from elite sports to recreational sports, Choi Han-seok’s advancement to a professional team is a meaningful case. It will motivate juniors and the school sports club, and we expect more promising athletes to emerge in the future.”
