January 10 - February 8: First Exhibition ':ROOTS' by 10 Resident Young Artists
Creative Activities and Community Participation Cultural Arts Programs Held Throughout the Year
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will hold the 2nd Resident Artists Report Exhibition ':ROOTS' at the Songpa Youth Artist Center from January 10 to February 8.
The 'Songpa Youth Artist Center (Pungseong-ro 10-gil 6-1)' utilizes a building completed for compensation of cultural assets in Pungnap-dong and opened in August 2023. It supports young artists who wish to reside in the center by providing creative spaces and exhibition opportunities.
More applicants applied for the 2nd artist recruitment than the 1st, showing strong interest from young artists. In November last year, a comprehensive evaluation of creative will, artistic quality of works, and plans for resident-targeted programs was conducted, selecting a final group of 10 young visual artists.
The selected artists will continue their creative activities from January to December 2025 at the Songpa Youth Artist Center, receiving support for studios, shared workspaces, and exhibition rooms. They will also operate various cultural and artistic programs at least twice a month in the first-floor education room for residents.
This resident report exhibition ':ROOTS' is significant as it announces the artistic beginnings of the new resident artists and serves as the first presentation of the artists' roots and identities to the local community.
The 10 2nd-term artists?▲Jo Jeong-su ▲Gong Ye-na ▲Yang Da-hee ▲Jang Yeon-ji ▲Nam Jeong-geun ▲Kim Mi-woo ▲Kang Yeon-su ▲Lim Jong-yeon ▲Park Jeong-seon ▲Ahn Ji-ye?were selected with works that best reveal each artist’s individuality and artistic world.
As the exhibition title 'Roots' suggests, the young artists explore their own origins and demonstrate how they connect and expand with the Songpa region through various visual art forms such as painting, sculpture, and media art.
The exhibition is held in the basement first-floor exhibition hall 'Art Space' and part of the first floor. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, closed on Sundays and public holidays.
In addition to the exhibition, cultural and artistic programs conducted directly by the resident artists are available. Various activities such as drawing and photography are open to residents of all ages, from children to adults, and can be registered through the Seoul Public Reservation System or on-site at the Youth Artist Center.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Starting with this resident report exhibition, we will support young artists to carry out creative activities in a stable environment throughout the year and provide residents with rich cultural and artistic experiences. We will continue to offer multifaceted support so that young artists can coexist with the community and grow further.”
