Incheon City received the highest S grade in the 'Regional Innovation Project category' evaluation of the 2024 Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
The Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project is a public contest project promoted annually by the Ministry of Employment and Labor to create jobs suitable for regional characteristics and industrial demand. It is operated by local governments cooperating with non-profit private organizations to discover and support local jobs. The project is divided into three categories: ▲Regional Innovation Project ▲Regional Plus Job Project ▲Automotive Industry Win-Win Cooperation.
The evaluation of this project is divided into five grades (S, A, B, C, D), and the evaluation results serve as an important criterion for determining regional national subsidies for the following year.
Incheon City earned an S grade in the Regional Innovation Project category by recognizing the achievements of the 'Root Industry Job Center' and 'Root Company Consulting (Root Codi)' initiatives, which were promoted to resolve the chronic labor shortage and recruitment difficulties of small and medium-sized root companies suffering from youth aversion, aging, and concentration in large corporations.
The Root Industry Job Center operated by Incheon Technopark and the Root Codi project by the Incheon Employers Federation have entered their fifth year this year. The city explained that based on accumulated know-how and expertise, they have established themselves as the nation's only successful model specialized in the root industry.
Additionally, the city received a favorable evaluation in the 'Automotive Win-Win Cooperation category,' which aims to resolve labor environment and wage gaps between large corporations and partner companies in the automotive industry. By promoting incentives for long-term employment and supporting health checkup expenses for workers, the project earned an 'A grade.'
Meanwhile, last year, the city secured 5.9 billion KRW in national funds through the Ministry of Employment and Labor's Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project contest. As a result of promoting the Regional Innovation Project and others aimed at resolving manpower shortages in key regional industries, 1,797 jobs were created.
An official from Incheon City stated, "Amid the ongoing economic recession and labor shortages, we will do our best to secure national funds this year as well to overcome the crisis in key regional industries, including the root industry, and to create jobs and stabilize employment."
