The Chosun Shipping Big Data Idea Contest Competition is an event that discovers outstanding works contributing to the creation of new value and innovation in marine and fisheries data through safe and economical ship operation and improvement of crew working conditions. Many universities from Busan, Gyeongnam, and other regions participate annually, engaging in fierce competition.
The awarded works in this contest were the result of guidance linked with the curriculum through the career development and employment support program Pinocchio® Level-Up, led by Professor Yoon Chang-won of Dongseo University (Department of Computer Engineering).
The KH3 team (Computer Engineering: Kim Ju-hyung, Go Tae-hee, Kim Kyung-hyun), which won the Grand Prize, proposed an "AI-based Coastal Route Optimization System." Aiming to prevent marine accidents and enhance navigation safety, the system ensures safe ship operation and maximizes the safety of passengers and cargo by avoiding hazardous zones, reducing accident rates, and responding to external forces in real-time, thereby addressing collisions, groundings, and capsizing incidents occurring during route transitions.
The High Big team (Artificial Intelligence Applications: Jo Dong-hyun, Kim Ho-yeon, Park Ye-jun, Seo Yoo-kyung; Computer Engineering: Park Sung-joo), which received the Excellence Award, proposed an "Illegal Aquaculture Farm Location Analysis and Rapid Response System" utilizing big data technology and AI. The proposal was highly evaluated for its technical aspects such as multi-data integrated processing, continuous management systems, and AI-based precise analysis, as well as its social aspects including strengthening marine environmental conservation sustainability and improving fishery resource management.
The marine and fisheries industry is a core sector with 170,000 companies, 820,000 workers, and an annual revenue of 170 trillion KRW. The Dongseo University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation stated that it will continuously contribute to the development of the marine and fisheries industry by discovering new growth engines and innovative services in the field based on convergence capabilities in AI, big data, XR/CV/DX.
