'Contribution to Carbon Neutrality' Researcher Min Byung-kwon and Professor Yoo Ga-young Receive Presidential Citation

The government announced that it selected individuals (12 people) and organizations (5 places) who contributed to the promotion of carbon neutrality and green growth policies, and held an award ceremony on the afternoon of the 9th at the Government Seoul Office, presided over by Nam Hyung-gi, Secretary General of the Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Committee (CN&GG Committee) and Deputy Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination.


The Presidential Citation was awarded to Min Byung-kwon, Principal Researcher at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), who contributed to greenhouse gas reduction by developing and transferring core source technologies in the carbon transition field to companies, and to Yoo Ga-young, Professor at Kyung Hee University (CN&GG Committee member), who contributed to the establishment of the national basic plan through measures to adapt to the climate crisis.


The Institutional Citation was awarded to the Korea Environment Corporation, which contributed to the establishment of the first Carbon Neutrality Basic Plan by 17 metropolitan local governments for the first time through active technical support.


The Prime Minister's Citation was given to Kim Ki-dong, Managing Director at Deloitte Consulting, who formed a private council for clean methanol and contributed to the launch of the government’s clean methanol task force and policy formulation based on it; Park Dae-sung, Principal Researcher at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, who contributed to policy formulation such as research and development of low-carbon catalytic processes in the petrochemical field and strategies for creating new clean methanol industries; and Hwang Sung-pil, Team Leader at Cheil Worldwide, who contributed to spreading a culture of carbon neutrality implementation through the public participation program 'Net Zero Friends.'


Additionally, Korea East-West Power received an institutional citation for contributing to sustainable agriculture and greenhouse gas reduction through the development of biofuels utilizing agricultural by-products.


The Office for Government Policy Coordination Director’s Citation was awarded to Kwak Jae-ho, Head of the Korea Railroad Research Institute; Kim Na-ye, Industrial Researcher at the Greenhouse Gas Integrated Information Center; Kim Mu-deok, Deputy General Manager at Gimpo Urban Management Corporation; Noh Jun-sung, Professor at Sejong University; Ryu Sang-jae, Co-CEO of Big Wave; Park Sang-jun, Local Environmental Officer at Daegu Metropolitan City; and Choi Deok-hwan, Executive Director at the Korea Wind Industry Association. Institutional citations were awarded to Jung-gu District of Ulsan Metropolitan City, the Gwangju Climate and Energy Promotion Agency Foundation, and the National Climate Crisis Adaptation Center of the Korea Environment Institute.
