Integrated Psychological Support Team Provides 379 Counseling Sessions
Health Insurance Premiums for Bereaved Families Reduced for 6 Months

The government will provide emergency living expenses to the bereaved families of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident on the 10th. Insurance premiums will also be reduced for six months starting this month.


The government held the 14th Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting on the 9th, chaired by Lee Han-kyung, Director of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (2nd General Coordinator of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters), to discuss these matters.

The director explained, "As of yesterday, we have handled 971 on-site complaints including requests from bereaved families and legal and insurance support," adding, "Through the integrated psychological support team, 17 counseling specialists provided 379 psychological counseling sessions, 66 referrals, and 9,471 information services at the airport counseling center and the Mind Relief Bus."


The Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to provide emergency living expenses to the bereaved families on the 10th through the Community Chest of Korea. To reduce insurance premiums for the bereaved families and victims, the government has revised the notification to reduce premiums for six months starting this month.


The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is currently creating a debris distribution map based on the collected wreckage. The investigation into the cause is also underway, including discussions on repair methods and analysis processes for the Flight Data Recorder (FDR).


In particular, special training will be conducted for all airlines on airports equipped with localizer mounds like Muan Airport, where the accident occurred, and special safety inspections of six airlines operating the accident aircraft model will be completed by the 10th.


The National Police Agency plans to return 825 unclaimed personal belongings to the bereaved families by the 10th after confirming ownership. They also intend to strictly handle 163 defamatory or insulting posts related to the victims and bereaved families. The director stated, "As of the 8th, two suspects have been arrested and eight identified," adding, "We are accelerating investigations with 48 search warrants executed and 81 requested."


The director concluded, "Although the funeral procedures for those who lost their lives in this accident will be completed today, the government will provide meticulous and thorough support, respecting the wishes of the bereaved families to the fullest until their pain is healed and they recover to daily life."
