Bought Secondhand Furniture and It Turns Out to Be Luxury 'Collapse'... Keep It or Return It, What’s the Outcome?

Buy Used Furniture at 1/9 the Original Price
Opening the Drawer Reveals It Full of Hermes and Tiffany & Co.

A woman living in the United States experienced a surprising incident after purchasing secondhand furniture and discovering luxury items inside.

According to the British Daily Mail on the 7th (local time), Amanda Dewitt, who resides in Dallas, Texas, recently shared on the short-form platform TikTok about an astonishing event that occurred after she bought a used dresser. Dewitt found the dresser she wanted on a secondhand platform and purchased it for one-ninth of the original price. Afterwards, she checked each drawer to ensure the cabinet was functioning properly. During this process, she discovered several Herm?s boxes and one Tiffany & Co. box. Herm?s is a representative high-end luxury brand, and Tiffany & Co. is also one of the luxury jewelry brands.

Dewitt, surprised, opened the Herm?s boxes. Inside were sets of Herm?s dinner plates and dessert plates adorned with gold. Dewitt said, "There are 12 plates. All the plates are in perfect condition," and added, "They are beautiful. It literally feels like a dream." The dinner plates sell for $250 each (about 360,000 KRW), and the dessert plates are priced at $185 (270,000 KRW). The Tiffany & Co. box contained a cake server.

After confirming this, Dewitt said, "I have no idea whether they accidentally left these luxury items behind or intentionally left them." However, to resolve her doubts, she immediately contacted the seller. It turned out that these items were purchased by the seller and her husband to commemorate their wedding. Dewitt said, "The seller came to retrieve the items," and added, "It would be heartbreaking to lose something bought for a wedding anniversary, especially such a wonderful collection like this."

Netizens who read the story commented, "Doing honest work is always rewarding. I made selfish decisions in the past and faced the consequences. Honesty brings happiness," "You will be rewarded someday. Your conscience is worth more than money," and "What you did for them was definitely the right thing." However, some netizens responded, "Who sells furniture without checking it first?" "If they didn’t even realize it was missing, you could have just kept it," and "I would have waited a month for their contact and then resold it."
