Father's First Visit After 'Greenland Purchase' Remark
"Originally Planned to Visit Last Spring"
Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President-elect Donald Trump and a key figure in the Trump presidential campaign, visited Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. Earlier, President-elect Trump’s statement about purchasing Greenland from Denmark has recently made the region a hot topic in Europe.
According to foreign media reports on the 7th (local time), Trump Jr. landed in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, aboard his father's private jet. Before landing, he posted a video on X taken from behind the cockpit, showing Greenland from above, writing, "I came to Greenland. It’s very, very cold!"
In an interview with local media, Trump Jr. explained, "I originally planned to visit last spring," adding, "I’m really happy to be here. I came as a tourist to see this amazing place." He also added, "My father asked me to send his regards to everyone in Greenland."
Trump Jr. is considered one of the key figures in the second term of the Trump administration, which will officially take office at the White House on the 20th. However, it is reported that his visit to Greenland this time was simply for the purpose of filming a podcast video. His stay lasted only 4 to 5 hours, and no meetings with Greenlandic government officials were scheduled.
Greenland has a population of about 57,000 and is currently an autonomous territory of Denmark. Previously, President-elect Trump sparked controversy by repeatedly mentioning his intention to buy Greenland from Denmark.
On the same day, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized at a press conference, "Greenland is not for sale." Meanwhile, when asked by a reporter whether he could promise not to use military force or economic coercion to take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, President-elect Trump replied, "I can’t say for sure," raising tensions.
