Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) has launched a campaign to promote prompt vaccination for unvaccinated individuals to protect the health of high-risk groups as influenza cases surge.
Currently, influenza cases are rapidly increasing, showing the largest outbreak since 2016. According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on the 8th, the number of influenza-like illness patients per 1,000 outpatients was 73.9 during the last week of last year (December 22?28). This is believed to be due to the cold and dry weather creating an environment conducive to virus spread.
Paju City has been providing free influenza vaccinations since September 20, 2024. Eligible recipients for free vaccination include children aged 6 months to 13 years (born between January 1, 2011, and August 31, 2024), pregnant women, and seniors aged 65 and older (born on or before December 31, 1959). They can receive the quadrivalent influenza vaccine at designated medical institutions.
Vaccinations can be administered on the same day without a separate reservation by confirming vaccine availability at designated medical institutions and bringing identification (pregnant women should bring a pregnancy confirmation or maternal health handbook along with identification). Designated medical institutions can be checked on the Vaccination Helper website.
Lee Han-sang, Director of Paju Public Health Center, said, “For those who have not yet been vaccinated, free vaccination is available until April 30. Please do not think it is too late and hurry to get vaccinated now to prevent infectious diseases.”
