Ulsan Cleaning Company Reveals Apartment Overrun by Flock of Pigeons
Left Vacant for 2 Years... Taken Over by Pigeons
Chaos from Droppings and Feathers, 40 Bags of Waste Collected
A cleaning company in Ulsan has attracted attention by revealing the cleaning of an apartment overrun by a flock of pigeons. On the 8th, a video titled “Undoubtedly the most extreme cleaning site in South Korea’s history” posted on the YouTube channel ‘Saengjon’ on the 6th went viral on social media.
The video shows dozens of pigeons occupying an apartment. As soon as the cleaning company opened the apartment door, layers of pigeon droppings were discovered, and flocks of pigeons were gathered throughout the living room and bedrooms. The droppings, mixed with feathers and dirt, covered the entire floor inside the house, as well as filling the sink, toilet, and kitchen sink. Pigeon droppings had dripped down the wallpaper, and pigeon carcasses and eggs were also found throughout the house. The company explained that “the thickness of the droppings was about the same as a tiramisu cake.”
The apartment was originally a dormitory for a company, but it had been left vacant after the employee living there resigned two years ago. During that time, the apartment’s window glass was broken, and pigeons entered through the broken window, with dozens reportedly inhabiting the apartment for two years. Later, the apartment was discovered due to complaints from the downstairs neighbors about “a lot of bugs,” and a cleaning request was made.
Five workers wearing white protective suits and dust masks first chased away all the pigeons before starting the cleaning. They shoveled out droppings and mites and swept away cobwebs with brooms. During this process, some workers gagged due to the strong odor. The amount of droppings shoveled out filled as many as 40 large bags. They said, “There was no place to accept pigeon droppings, so we asked a waste disposal company we know to take care of it,” and added, “We only removed the droppings. The toilet, wallpaper, sink, and flooring are expected to be demolished and remodeled.”
The video attracted attention on social media, surpassing 10 million views. Netizens responded with comments such as “I held my breath watching the video,” “I don’t think I could do it even if paid, everyone is amazing,” “The neighbors must have had a hard time,” and “Watching the cleaning is so refreshing.”
