Acting Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection Orders Review of Re-Audit on Presidential Office Relocation

It Is Known That There Is Resistance Within

Acting Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, Jo Eun-seok, has ordered a review of the reexamination regarding the audit results of the relocation of the Presidential Office and residence.

On the 7th, during the plenary session of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, Jo responded "Yes" to Rep. Park Eun-jung of the Innovation Party's question, "Did you request an ex officio reexamination regarding the audit of the relocation of the Presidential Office and residence?" He was reserved about the reason for ordering the reexamination, stating it is an "internal ongoing procedure."

However, it is known that within the Board of Audit and Inspection, there is a current of opposition arguing that an audit properly concluded through a resolution of the Audit Committee does not meet the requirements for an ex officio reexamination. According to the Board of Audit and Inspection Act, an ex officio reexamination is only possible when illegal or improper rulings are found due to errors or omissions in evidence documents.

Previously, in September of last year, the Board of Audit and Inspection disclosed the audit report on the Presidential Office and residence.

The opposition parties have continuously criticized the audit as inadequate and raised suspicions that screen golf facilities and others were expanded within the Presidential residence even after the audit was concluded.

Jo, who assumed the position of acting chairman after the impeachment motion against Chairman Choi Jae-hae was passed in the National Assembly on the 5th of last month, will retire on the 17th.
