Police Allow to Go Home Despite Knowing They Were Wearing It
A man in his 40s with a history of sexual offenses was arrested nine days after attempting to enter a woman’s residence through an apartment veranda.
The Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 7th that they had arrested Mr. A on charges of trespassing.
Mr. A is suspected of secretly peeking into the home of a woman, Ms. B, who lives on the first floor of an apartment in the Pyeongtaek area at around 10:50 p.m. on the 29th of last month. He is also accused of stepping on the outdoor unit of an air conditioner, climbing outside the veranda, and attempting to enter by opening the outer window of a double-glazed window about 10 cm.
Mr. A fled when Ms. B shouted, "Who is it?" It was reported that only Ms. B and her young children were inside the house at the time of the incident.
Mr. A was confirmed to be a wearer of an electronic ankle bracelet with a prior record of trespassing, rape, and injury.
The police applied for a pre-arrest warrant for Mr. A on the 3rd. Four days later, the court held a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) and issued the arrest warrant for Mr. A.
A police official stated, "After conducting supplementary investigations with Mr. A, we plan to transfer the case next week."
This case sparked controversy after it was revealed that the police officers who responded to the victim’s report at the time knew that Mr. A was wearing an electronic ankle bracelet but did not make an emergency arrest. Instead, they took him to the police station voluntarily, conducted a brief investigation, and then released him.
