Sharing Strategies, Aiming to Eradicate Major Disasters
The Sewerage Business Office of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, conducted a safety and health management training on the 7th at the Seongsan District Office's conference room for 30 employees related to sewerage facilities and construction company representatives.
This training was organized to share recent fatal accidents and provide practical measures to prevent safety accidents on site, in line with the full application of the Serious Accident Punishment Act to workplaces with five or more employees starting January 27, 2024, which strengthens safety management responsibilities for small-scale businesses.
The training covered ▲ cases of sewer-related accidents and media reports ▲ common types of accidents occurring during sewer work ▲ preventive measures against suffocation accidents in confined spaces and guidance on the One-Call service ▲ explanations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act.
Additionally, specific measures to prevent suffocation, falls, surges, and collapses that may occur in sewer manholes were also discussed.
Kim Young-cheol, Director of the Changwon Sewerage Center, emphasized, “Recognizing the dangers in confined spaces such as hydrogen sulfide poisoning and oxygen deficiency caused by organic matter decomposition inside sewer pipes, and the importance of preventive prior measures.” He added, “We will continue thorough safety management and on-site inspections to prioritize life and safety and prevent serious accidents.”
