Hong Joon-pyo: "The Core of Yoon's Impeachment Case Is Treason... Without It, the Impeachment Motion Would Not Have Passed"

Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, claimed that the reason for the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol related to 'treason' was withdrawn, stating, "The core of this impeachment case against President Yoon was treason, and without it, the impeachment motion would not have passed in the National Assembly."

On the 7th, Mayor Hong said on his Facebook, "Since treason was withdrawn from the impeachment motion, the Constitutional Court should naturally dismiss the impeachment for deviating from the identity of the case, and furthermore, the impeachment of Acting Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, who was impeached on the grounds of treason, should also be dismissed without further consideration."

He explained, "The impeachment resolution is like a prosecutor's indictment," adding, "When a prosecutor changes an indictment, it is permitted within the scope of maintaining the identity of the case considering the defendant's right to defense, and if it exceeds that scope, the indictment is dismissed."

He also said, "During Park Geun-hye's impeachment, some parts were withdrawn, which was controversial but possible because it was within the scope of the identity of the case," and added, "However, this impeachment of President Yoon is a completely different case and involves the withdrawal of an essential core." He emphasized, "No matter how political the Constitutional Court may be, it should not forget its pride as the highest decision-making body that fundamentally protects the Constitution."

Mayor Hong also stated the previous day, "If the core treason charge of the impeachment was withdrawn, then no matter how the impeachment document is changed, there is no identity of the case, so both Han Deok-soo's impeachment and President Yoon's impeachment are invalid."

He argued, "If you remove the black bean sauce from Jjajangmyeon, does it still remain Jjajangmyeon? The suspension of President Yoon's duties is invalid, and the suspension of Prime Minister Han Deok-soo's duties is also invalid, so the Constitutional Court should not just leave the political turmoil as it is but should first accept the injunction to normalize the country and then set the future schedule."

He further stated, "The treason plot disguised as legality led by Lee Jae-myung now requires the Constitutional Court to promptly open the door to normalization," and added, "I hope the Constitutional Court will no longer bear the stigma of being an accomplice institution in making Lee Jae-myung president."
