Yeongdeok-gun Surpasses 1.107 Billion Won in Hometown Love Donations, Ranks 1st in Gyeongbuk

Effect of Diversifying Strategies Including Establishment of Civilian Public Relations Support Group and Introduction of Private Platforms

Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, raised 1.07 billion won in hometown love donations for 2024, ranking first among local governments in Gyeongbuk Province.

The Hometown Love Donation System, implemented on January 1, 2023, is a program that provides thank-you gifts and tax deduction benefits when donations are made to one’s hometown or a preferred local government.

Yeongdeok-gun judged that the Hometown Love Donation System could serve as a catalyst not only for securing funds needed for welfare and revitalization projects but also for promoting the region, and thus has carried out various strategic activities and projects for fundraising.

This can be seen in successful cases such as △establishing a community cooperation system including operating the ‘Citizen Promotion Support Group’ composed of members from five social organizations △expanding donation participation and base through close cooperation with nationwide hometown associations △diversifying donation channels and enhancing convenience by introducing Gyeongbuk’s first private platform (Wigib) △selecting and managing carefully chosen high-quality thank-you gifts.

County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol said, “We plan to conduct various programs to revitalize the system by thoroughly evaluating and analyzing last year’s hometown love donation fundraising performance. We will strengthen trust with donors by providing practical benefits and transparently disclosing the use of donations, creating an environment where the hearts and sincerity of donors who love their hometown can be effectively used for regional happiness and development.”

Yeongdeok-gun is receiving favorable evaluations for realizing highly satisfactory civil complaint administration by operating a resident-oriented welfare project, the Mobile Civil Complaint Handling Team, which resolved 1,864 complaints as of 2024 through the Hometown Love Donation Fund Project.

Building on these achievements, Yeongdeok-gun is promoting projects this year such as the Totak Totak Yeongdeok Culture Center, the Mobile Civil Complaint Handling Team, and an ecological school project for attracting urban residents to farming and rural living. As a designated donation project, it plans to operate a dental treatment support project for low-income children and adolescents.
