Confusion Among Some Citizens... Correction Made Within About 8 Minutes
On the 6th, Dong-gu District in Daegu caused confusion by mistakenly sending an emergency disaster text message stating that a fire had broken out at a large outlet. It was reported that this message was mistakenly sent during a drill in the afternoon.
According to Yonhap News, at 6:20 PM that day, Dong-gu sent a message saying, "A fire occurred at Outlet A around 8 PM today. Nearby residents are urged to evacuate to a safe place immediately." The district then sent another message 8 minutes later stating, "The previously sent message was mistakenly sent during a drill. We apologize for the confusion."
Although the mistaken message was corrected within a short time, it is known that some citizens responded with concerned messages. The responsible department in Dong-gu received calls from citizens asking whether there was an actual fire, and inquiries were also made to the Daegu Fire Headquarters.
The outlet mistakenly reported to be on fire is a building with 6 basement floors and 9 above-ground floors, housing numerous clothing stores and restaurants. At the time the message was sent, the outlet made an evacuation announcement to customers who were shopping, but corrected it after confirming the emergency message was mistakenly sent.
Dong-gu officials bowed their heads and said, "This happened due to a mistake during a drill," and apologized, "We are sorry for causing concern to the citizens."
