LG Electronics announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft (MS) at the 'LG World Premiere' held on the 6th (local time) at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, USA, one day before the opening of the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition, 'CES 2025.'
On the 6th (local time), LG Electronics held the LG World Premiere at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, USA, under the theme "Life's Good 24/7 with Affectionate Intelligence." LG Electronics CEO Jo Joo-wan took the stage as the keynote speaker to introduce AI innovations expanding from AI home to mobility, commercial, and various everyday spaces, and announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft. Accordingly, the two companies will collaborate to provide integrated services. LG Electronics will combine its products used in various places such as homes, vehicles, and commercial spaces, along with the customer insights gained from them, with MS's artificial intelligence (AI) technology to implement an 'Empathy Intelligence Integrated Service.'
They will also join forces to develop and advance AI agents utilized in various spaces ranging from homes to vehicles, hotels, and offices. Previously, LG Electronics applied MS's voice recognition and speech synthesis technologies to its mobile AI home hub (project name Q9) to enable smoother communication with customers. Through this, Q9 was able to understand customers' various intonations, pronunciations, and colloquial expressions. In addition, LG Electronics and MS have decided to develop AI agents that not only understand and interact with customers but also predict their needs and preferences.
Judson Althoff, MS Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer (CCO), who attended the event, said, "We are pleased to announce a partnership with LG Electronics, which is innovating customer experiences and transforming everyday life with smart products and services," adding, "We will create innovative experiences for a better life beyond simple technological collaboration with LG Electronics."
Vice President Althoff also revealed plans for collaboration in the rapidly growing 'AI data center' sector amid the global AI boom. LG Electronics possesses large-scale cooling technology called 'Chiller' and solutions for AI data centers, enabling it to handle thermal management and other challenges for next-generation AI data centers built by MS.
The LG World Premiere held that day is an event where LG Electronics introduces innovation and future visions to global media and partners ahead of the CES opening. Especially this year, in line with the purpose of empathy intelligence, which means caring for and empathizing with customers, the event departed from the traditional presenter-centered speeches and showcased a drama vividly depicting AI experiences in future daily life. About 1,000 people, including global media and partner company representatives, attended the event. It was also broadcast live online to customers worldwide.
Jo Joo-wan, CEO and President of LG Electronics, emphasized in his keynote speech, "Empathy intelligence, which cares for and empathizes with customers, is now evolving into a technology that seamlessly connects various physical spaces and virtual environments to provide a holistic experience," adding, "A holistic experience where products and services are seamlessly connected across diverse everyday spaces is the differentiated customer value that empathy intelligence can offer and what distinguishes it from other AI technologies."
In particular, CEO Jo cited connected devices, capable AI agents, and integrated services as essential elements for realizing a holistic experience. Connected devices, which serve as AI's customer touchpoints, are among LG Electronics' greatest assets. LG Electronics owns hundreds of millions of smart products worldwide. Last year, it acquired the global smart home platform company 'Athom,' continuously expanding connectivity with over 170 IoT device brands worldwide. As for AI agents, LG Electronics is enhancing the functions of 'LG FURON,' which acts as the brain of LG AI Home. LG FURON, which combines large language model (LLM)-based generative AI with real-time spatial sensing and customer-specific lifestyle pattern data, can now understand customers' situations and contexts in real time and control devices and services accordingly.
CEO Jo stated, "LG Electronics' ultimate goal is to create a holistic customer experience anytime and anywhere through empathy intelligence," emphasizing, "No matter how our lives change with AI, LG Electronics will strive to provide the unchanging value of 'Life’s Good' based on AI."
