Former Minister of Knowledge Economy Choi Joong-kyung has been appointed as the International Investment Cooperation Ambassador. Ambassador Choi will support economic diplomacy activities aimed at enhancing Korea's external credibility and maintaining momentum for foreign investment.
The government announced on the 6th through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy that former Minister Choi has been appointed as the International Investment Cooperation Ambassador, a special ambassadorial title. Following deliberation at the Cabinet meeting, Choi Sang-mok, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance, made the appointment. The special ambassadorial title system grants ambassadorial titles to individuals with expertise and recognition in various fields to utilize them in the government's diplomatic activities, with a term of one year.
A government official explained, "Ambassador Choi, who entered public service by passing the 22nd Administrative Examination in 1979, has diverse and extensive experience and expertise across the economy, industry, and real economy sectors, having served as Minister of Knowledge Economy, President of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance. Along with his experience working at international organizations and as a diplomat, including as Executive Director at the World Bank and Ambassador to the Philippines, and currently serving as President of the Korea-America Association, he is the ideal candidate for external activities to enhance Korea's international credibility."
Going forward, Ambassador Choi plans to engage in efforts to maintain and expand foreign investment momentum through meetings with domestic and international foreign investors and representatives of related organizations, visits to overseas institutions related to foreign direct investment (FDI), meetings with key figures, and promoting the country at overseas investment roadshows (IR).
