Jeju Air Disaster... China Also Strengthens 'Bird Strike' Prevention

Expansion of Bird Deterrence Operations Around Airports
Study on Bird Movement Patterns... Strengthening Emergency Drills

China is strengthening its efforts to prevent 'bird strikes' at airports to avoid aircraft accidents. This move comes in response to the crash of a Jeju Air passenger plane at Muan Airport.

According to major foreign media on the 3rd, Su Mingzhang, Safety Commissioner of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, held a press conference and announced safety measures to prevent civil aviation accidents following the recent crashes of an Azerbaijani passenger plane and the Jeju Air disaster.

With bird strikes, considered a primary cause of the Jeju Air disaster, being highlighted, the authorities plan to first enhance related preventive measures. They will study the migration patterns of winter migratory birds and expand bird deterrence operations at airports and surrounding areas.

Additionally, a comprehensive investigation and prevention of potential runway safety hazards will be conducted. Customized inspections will be carried out at relevant airports nationwide to identify hidden risks. Emergency drills will also be intensified, and the level of training will be improved.

Furthermore, ahead of the Chunyun (Spring Festival travel season), during which billions of people travel, a full-scale special supervision and inspection will be implemented.
